Genesis

The journey of Kendriya Vidyalaya DRDO began in 1986,
when its establishment was initiated by the
Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE), a premier
laboratory under the aegis of the
Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
At its inception, the Vidyalaya had a modest beginning, with just
three teachers, one Principal, and classes from I to V,
functioning within five classrooms, an office, and a small campus.

From its very inception, KV DRDO received generous and unwavering
support from DRDO, which has remained its benevolent
patron and a steadfast partner in its growth. The support extended by
DRDO enabled the Vidyalaya to develop its infrastructure and strengthen
its functioning through the provision of buildings, laboratories,
furniture, technical assistance, transportation facilities, financial
support, and additional manpower. Beginning with a student strength of
around 200, the Vidyalaya has grown remarkably over the
years and today caters to approximately 2,500 students,
with five sections each from Classes I to X, three sections in Class XI,
and two sections in Class XII.

Spread across 4.82 acres, the Vidyalaya comprises three
blocks—A, B and C—and offers a vibrant and aesthetically
pleasing environment conducive to learning. The campus is enriched with
a skating rink, a pond, and a water fountain, while beautifully tiled
pathways, illuminated by elegant lamp posts and bordered by lush green
lawns, add to its charm. A dedicated foot overbridge
provides direct access to the nearby residential areas, ensuring a safe
and convenient commute for students while eliminating the risks
associated with crossing busy roads.

The Kalam Hall, a covered assembly hall equipped with a
stage, serves as an important venue for school assemblies, cultural
programmes, competitions, and other major events. The Vidyalaya also
houses the air-conditioned Bapuji Hall, with a seating
capacity of more than 250, which regularly serves as a venue for
exhibitions, workshops, collaborative learning activities, and academic
programmes.

Over the decades, KV DRDO has witnessed remarkable growth and
transformation, earning appreciation and recognition from both
DRDO and Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) for its
achievements in academics, co-curricular activities, sports, and other
areas of school education. The Vidyalaya has consistently demonstrated
its commitment to academic excellence, achieving a
100% pass percentage in the Class X CBSE Board Examination for
the past five years, along with commendable performances in
the Class XII Board Examination.

Guided by the leadership of seven distinguished Principals
over the years, KV DRDO has evolved into a prominent educational
institution, nurturing generations of students and providing them with
opportunities to excel in diverse fields. The Vidyalaya also actively
participates in cultural exchange and international educational
programmes, with several teachers being deputed abroad to represent and
participate in such enriching initiatives.

KV DRDO has earned particular recognition for its
outstanding infrastructure and well-maintained campus,
making it a preferred venue for several
regional and national-level programmes and events organized by
KVS. Its commitment to creating a green and aesthetically
pleasing environment has also been acknowledged through the award of the
Rolling Shield for the best-curated school garden in the city for
five consecutive years.

The Vidyalaya’s distinction extends beyond its physical infrastructure
to its greatest strength—its human resources. Numerous
teachers of KV DRDO have been honoured with
regional and national-level awards in recognition of
their dedication, innovation, and contribution to education. Their
commitment to progressive teaching practices and holistic development
has played a pivotal role in shaping the Vidyalaya’s academic culture.

The legacy of KV DRDO is further enriched by its accomplished
alumni, who have made significant contributions across
diverse professions and fields, bringing pride and distinction to their
alma mater. The present generation of students continues this tradition
of excellence, demonstrating remarkable achievements at
national and international levels in sports, particularly
in swimming and badminton.

The continued progress of KV DRDO has been made possible through the
collective efforts and unwavering support of the
DRDO fraternity, dedicated staff, committed parents, and
enthusiastic students. From its humble beginnings in 1986 to
its present stature as a thriving institution of excellence, KV DRDO
continues to uphold its legacy while embracing new opportunities,
emerging technologies, and evolving educational practices.
